As much to tell you right away… When you enter the garage fitted out by Guillaume Martagnon, you are amazed. In Bazas (Gironde), very close to the city center, this car enthusiast has created an incredible universe. With his company, Cactus Collection, he imports collectible American vehicles.
Among its treasures, a 1968 Mustang Fast Back. “In this state, we do not find it in France, certifies the person concerned. It is the ultimate Grail. We pampered her! Its price could make more than one wallet dizzy: €120,000. But the boss of Cactus Collection has found an owner for this collector’s item.
What he sells a lot at the moment? Ladybugs. “Yellow, green, blue, red… I sold everything. And customers come from everywhere. »
“Imagine, if these cars could talk…”
Parisians come especially to Bazas for a car. Others come from even further away. Installed since the beginning of the year in the city of fat beef, Cactus Collection already enjoys a solid reputation. But how does it work?
Explanations from the boss:
With my brother, Julien, we have always been fans of motor sports and vintage. We’ve always appreciated that. My brother is settled in Mexico. He has a workshop of eight people.
This is located in Córdoba, in the state of Veracruz, very close to the site of Puebla, the historic cradle of the Mexican automobile. “We buy cars in the United States, in Mexico. Then, they are restored in the workshop and then transported to France where they are sold. Afterwards, we do not let customers down. We follow them and we really accompany them for the interview. »
“A real attraction for American cars”
The cars in question are pick-ups, Volkswagen combi, the Type 181… Starting price: around €35,000. “They are real Americans,” smiles Guillaume Martagon. They were born there, rode there. Once, we even had a motorcycle that belonged to a police captain, like the one in the series Chips. Imagine, if she could have spoken…” No doubt about it, they would have things to talk about.
Mulholland Drive, the legendary Route 66, Highway 163, Fifth Avenue in New York… Perhaps one of the cars on sale at Bazas has driven on one of these roads. What give chills to more than one amateur.
“Today, there is a real attraction for American cars, attests Guillaume Martagnon, also a member of the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles and the Retro Mobile Club of Bazas. They have an oversized engine, a special body. Nothing comparable to what is done here. The moral of this story: today, in Bazas, you can afford a slice of the American dream.
