The teenager who tracked Elon Musk’s jet is now tracking Russian oligarchs

Known for having tracked Elon Musk’s private jet and tried to negotiate with the businessman, Jack Sweeney is tracking the planes of the Russian oligarchs this time. And in times of war, his new account is a huge success.

It takes all the passions to make a world. At the end of January, Jack Sweeney, a 19-year-old American, had a quarter of an hour of glory thanks to his exchanges with Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX. The young man had been offered 5000 dollars for the closure of a Twitter account (@ElonJet) created especially to follow all the movements of the private jet of Elon Musk. A little frightened by the idea, and even though the young man only used legal means, Musk had started a few exchanges with Sweeney, even being surprised in writing that air traffic control was “so primitive”.

While Jack Sweeney didn’t get an internship at Tesla or even a Tesla Model Y — two things he tried to bargain with Musk — he remains passionate about tracking the jets of super-rich personalities. With the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Jack Sweeney has also created a new account, called @RUOligarchJets, allowing him to track the movements of certain Russian oligarchs like Roman Abramovich, the owner of the Chelsea football club.

The account, created in February 2022, already has more than 260,000 subscribers, while @ElonJet reached 120,000 subscribers when our article was published. As with the account dedicated to Musk’s jet, this new account automatically posts messages accompanied by maps as soon as a flight from a plane belonging to these billionaires is detected. “The planes that these oligarchs own are absolutely insanecommented Jack Sweeney to our colleagues at Bloomberg. Their aircraft are huge compared to other jets. These oligarchs travel in commercial-sized planes like an Airbus A319 and a Boeing 737!”.

However, it should be noted that there is no indication of who is inside one of these planes. Jack Sweeney has also created another account (@PutinJet) to track the flights of Vladimir Putin, the Russian President. “You should not expect great precision, because Putin has several devices to cover his tracks”says the young man.
